Plot summary of each Aesop’s Fable
The Hare and the Tortoise is one of Aesop’s most well-known tales. The Hare challenges the Tortoise to a race, thinking he will easily win. But the Hare’s overconfidence thwarts his efforts, as he is snoozing while the Tortoise perseveres and wins the race!
The Lion and the Mouse is a story about finding friendship and help in the most unlikely of places. The Mouse begs the Lion not to eat him, and he will one day repay this kindness. The Lion doubts it, but lets the Mouse go. And some time later, the Lion is caught in a net – and the Mouse nibbles a hole to free him.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a story about a bored and mischievous boy who tricks the villagers into thinking that a wolf is trying to steal their sheep – multiple times. Then one day the wolf does appear and no one believes him, and he loses his flock.
The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse tells a tale of two mice who visit each other’s homes. The Town Mouse is unimpressed by the Country Mouse’s simple life and the Country Mouse is overwhelmed by the Town Mouse’s fast-paced life – and scared by the cat!
